PSP Tutorial: Make a Ribbon Out of Pattern Paper

This is a fun and easy trick that you can do in Paint Shop Pro if you need a ribbon to match a digital scrapbook kit that you have or are making. It is a simple tutorial and the ribbon turns out great!

Click on the images to make them bigger.

First open the pattern paper and select a section of it all the way across. Copy and paste as a new image.

Select> All.
Select > Modify > Contract 10
Select > Invert
Effects > Texture > Blinds settings below:

Select > Invert

Effects > Texture > Blinds settings below:

Select your ribbon using your selection tool leaving the ends not selected.
Image > Crop to selectiong
Image > Resize to 12 inches
File > Export > JPEG Optimizer

Now you're done, but you could change it up a bit if you want a little more advanced look. You will need a plugin for this last step - if you want to highlight your ribbon and make it look 'more real'. Otherwise, you can just make the ribbon. The plugin is a freebie - that's the good news. The bad news is that the newer PSP programs are having a hard time running with the old plugins. Here is what I did:

  • Downloaded Greg's Pool Shadow here.
  • Place it in your Plugins folder in the program itself - NOT plugins in MY PSP in your documents.(I have windows 7) The directory is C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Languages\EN\PlugIns
  • Follow any directions here if the plugin is not working.
Here are the setting's using Greg's Pool Shadow plugin:

Hope you enjoy making tons of ribbons!!

PSP Make a Pearl Tube Tutorial

I love pearls and this tut can be used to make any color you wish, then put them in a tube and use them to make frames, alphas and more!

Click on the images to make them bigger.

Open a new image using the settings in the image below:

Select a circle using the selection tool with the setting below. Select the biggest circle you can in your image. Fill with your desired pearl color.

Effects > Artistic Effects > Balls and Bubbles Do not check anything on the Maps tab. The other tabs should be filled out like these:

Save these settings in you Balls and Bubbles tool as 'Pearl'. Now you have a pearl preset ;)
Selections > Modify > Contract: 5
Selections > Invert
Click your delete button and get rid of that too dark edge.
Selections > Invert
Image > Crop to selection

Because we want to turn our pearl into a tube, we have to know its exact size.
Image > Resize to the settings below:

Next you'll need to export the picture tube.
File > Export > Picture Tube
Use the setting below... you can always change the size and how it comes out of the tube when you are using the tube, you are simply setting the tube defaults here:

After you are done, open a new image and play with your tube! You may need to restart PSP depending on the version you are using.
